Serving St. Clair County for 75 Years

The East Side Fire Department is a volunteer (paid-on-call) fire department which provides emergency and non-emergency fire suppression, fire prevention, auto extrication, and technical rescue services for part of Saint Clair County, Illinois.  Included in our response area are parts of unincorporated Belleville, Shiloh, Swansea, and Fairview Heights.  We also have mutual aid agreements with the fire departments of Belleville, Swansea, Fairview, O'Fallon, Freeburg, Mascoutah, Northwest, Signal Hill, Villa Hills, and Scott Air Force Base.

From our two engine houses we operate (3) three front line fire engines, (1) ladder-truck, (1) reserve engine, (1) brush-truck, (1) utility vehicle, and (3) chief's vehicles. Our department has approximately thirty active members, and maintains an ISO 3 rating.

Our firefighters are trained and certified to Basic Operations Firefighter or higher by the State of Illinois. While we do not require or provide advanced medical training, many of our members are also certified Emergency Medical Technicians or Paramedics.  The initial training we provide our firefighters is administered through Southwestern Illinois College or Illinois Fire Service Institute.  This training is at the same level as nearly every fire department, both volunteer and career, in the State of Illinois.

How do I know who my fire department is?

You can utilize the St. Clair County Parcel Inquiry (http://www.co.st-clair.il.us/Pages/parcel.aspx) to search your address. If you are in a fire district, it will be a separate district as shown below. If you reside in a municipality (city) that has a municipal department, one of the taxing districts will be the municipality. (E.G. “City Of Belleville”).

I can think of no more stirring symbol of man’s humanity to man than a fire engine.
