Paid-on-Call and Part-Time Day Shift Firefighters Needed!
RequirementS
Be at least 17 years old
No felony convictions
Valid driver’s license
Ability to learn firefighting skills and obtain the Basic Operations Firefighter certification within 2 years.
Paid-on-call members must reside within a 4 mile radius of either engine house. The engine houses are located at 3111 East B Street Rd, Belleville, IL 62221 and 1723 N Belt East, Belleville, IL 62221. Refer to the map below to help determine if you reside within the radius.
Benefits
Non-certified personnel paid $15 an hour.
Certified personnel paid $18 an hour.
Opportunities to attend excellent specialized training on a local, state, and federal level
Expectations
Personnel must respond to an average of 20% of calls for service OR work two week day shifts per month.
Personnel must attend an average of two trainings per month.
Application & Membership Process
To join the department, you must complete a membership application provided here. Applications are also available at either fire house and can be picked up on Monday nights.
Application Process:
1. Applications should be submitted to the Fire Chief or a designee.
2. A background check will be completed. (Criminal, DMV, Reference)
3. An interview will be completed.
4. A conditional offer of employment will be made pending a pre-employment physical.
5. An applicant will be sworn in as a probationary firefighter.

Is there a residency requirement?

Yes! The department does not require prior firefighting experience. The fire department has in-house training every Monday and sends all personnel to obtain their Basic Operations Firefighter Certification.
Do you respond to medical calls?
We are not a medical provider and do not respond as a primary responder for medical emergencies. We do assist our local EMS providers when requested.I'm in the military. Can I still join?
Yes. We have several military members on the department, and will grant a leave-of-absence for deployments and extended TDYs.I'm busy on Monday nights. Can I still join?
